I Race for My Grandmother

Race Large Banner_2014Guest Writer: Emily Warrick, Komen St. Louis Development Manager

I race for my Grandmother, Martha Elizabeth (Libby) Warrick, who lost her brave battle with breast cancer just six weeks before I was born.

Libby Warrick at her son’s wedding in 1981, one year after her breast cancer diagnosis

She was cheerfully optimistic throughout her treatments, and believed that the “silver lining” to having breast cancer was that it allowed her son (my dad) to meet and eventually marry my mom (her radiation therapist providing treatments).

I race so that one day no one will have to lose loved ones to this disease.

Join us for the 16th Annual Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 14. Visit www.komenstlouis.org.
